Pipe Lining in Mishawaka, IN

Pipe Lining · Mishawaka, IN

A new pipe cured inside your old sewer line

Pipe lining repairs a damaged sewer line from the inside. We cure a new pipe inside the old one, so the yard above it mostly stays in place. It works on cracked or leaking sewer and drain lines. A drain that clogs again soon after drain cleaning can point to a broken pipe underneath.

Trenchless sewer repair means the fix happens inside the pipe rather than in a long trench. That matters most when the line runs under a driveway or a big tree. When a pipe is too damaged to line, we dig and replace it instead. ASAP Poop lines sewer and drain pipes across St. Joseph County and Elkhart County.

How Trenchless Pipe Lining Works

Every lining job starts with the condition of the line: where it is damaged and how badly. Then we clean the pipe out with hydro jetting. Roots and buildup have to come out first, so the liner meets a clean pipe wall.

The liner goes in through a cleanout or a small access hole near the house. It runs the length of the damaged pipe and presses tight against the old wall. Then it hardens in place and becomes the new pipe. In the trade, this is called cured-in-place pipe.

You hold off on running water while the liner goes in and hardens. Once it cures, the line goes back in service. The cured liner forms one continuous pipe over the old cracks and joints.

Can Your Sewer Pipe Be Lined, or Does It Need Replacing?

Sewer pipe lining works when the old pipe still holds its shape. Cracks, open joints, slow leaks and roots coming in are the usual reasons to line. Those problems sit in the pipe wall, and a liner covers the wall from the inside.

Some lines need digging instead. A liner follows the shape of the old pipe, so it cannot fix a sag where water sits. A section that has caved in, or shifted too far for the liner to pass, has to be dug up.

Sometimes one bad spot gets dug and repaired, and the rest of the line gets lined. When the whole run is too far gone, the job moves to sewer line replacement. We tell you which way your line should go before any work starts. If either would work, call (574) 254-7667 and ask us to quote both.

Trenchless Sewer Repair for Older Homes Around Mishawaka

Census data shows about 6 in 10 South Bend homes were built before 1960. In Elkhart it is close to half, and in Mishawaka about 1 in 3. An older home often means an older sewer lateral, the line from the house to the city sewer. Lines of that age were often laid in clay pipe, which can crack and fill with roots.

Parts of Mishawaka also sit on wet ground. Federal soil maps show water within a foot of the surface at times on about 4 in 10 acres. Groundwater can seep into a cracked sewer line there. A liner seals those cracks and joints from the inside.

In South Bend, sewer laterals are privately owned, so the line under your yard belongs to you. On redevelopment sites, the city's site development guide says an old lateral may need lining before reuse. Any access hole starts with an Indiana 811 locate request, made at least two full working days ahead.

FAQ

Pipe Lining Questions, Answered

Common questions about pipe lining around Mishawaka and the rest of St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Call (574) 254-7667

How does pipe lining deal with roots?
Roots get into a sewer line through cracks and loose joints. We cut them out with hydro jetting before the liner goes in. The cured liner then covers those openings along the lined stretch of pipe.
Will my yard or driveway be dug up?
Most of the yard and the driveway stay in place. Lining needs only an entry point, like a cleanout or a small hole near the house. If one section has caved in, that spot gets dug and repaired before the rest is lined.
Can I use water while the line is being lined?
Not while the liner goes in and hardens. Hold off on flushing toilets and running water until we tell you the line is back in service. The office sets the work day with you ahead of time.
Does a liner make the pipe smaller?
A little. The liner presses tight against the old pipe wall and adds only a thin layer. The line keeps most of its inside size.
Can old clay or cast iron pipe be lined?
Yes, as long as the pipe still holds its shape. Clay and cast iron sewer pipe can both take a liner. The condition of the pipe matters more than what it is made of.
What does pipe lining cost?
The price comes down to the length of the line and the pipe size. How much cleaning it needs first matters too, and so does the access point. A caved-in section that has to be dug adds to the job. We look at the line and put the quote in writing.
